How Can severe Lower Back Pain Be Treated?

Hi, I was diagnosed years ago with degenerative disc disease and I have just learned to deal with the pain. Lately, I have noticed more lower back pain. My husband just noticed that I have swelling around the lower portion of my back. What could this be?

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and am sorry for the painful situation you are in.

Unfortunately, degenerative disc disease is associated with pain. The level of pain depends on the level where the degenerative disc is located. If in lower back, this explain why you are having lower back pain.

Next, you say that your husband just noticed a swelling around the lower portion of your back. This could be due to inflammation following degenerative disc disease.

I highly recommend to consult with an orthopedic surgeon and to run X-ray of your lower back for further evaluation and to see if you need prescription meds.

For the moment, I advise to avoid rapid movements of the back and twisting positions until you see your orthopedic surgeon.

Hope this helps.
